Tuesday:
We had a theory test on hair design. This means like the shapes of haircuts and what looks good with what types of faces. We studied it last week, but didn't test on it until today. In specialty class we talked about out personal color horror stories with MaLinda. I talked about how one time, when I was younger, I was getting my hair highlighted and the stylist working on my hair had run out of bleach. How do you run out of bleach?? After class my friend Kari and I did manicures on each other for our worksheets.
Wednesday:
GUEST ARTIST!! Stephanie Kocielski, the artistic director for John Paul Mitchell Systems, came to speak to our school today. She was amazing!! She showed us a few hairstyles and cuts. I wish I had taken pictures of the cuts and styles as they were being preformed, but I did take a picture of the final products. They were really amazing and I only hope that I can be as talented as she is one day. Later that day I helped one of the girls in phase two with a perm on an elder woman. She is a former hair stylist so it was really cool to pick her brain! I had so much fun that day!!
Thursday:
Today in theory we started and finished our chapter on Shampooing. We will assess on it Friday. MaLinda planned a really fun color class. We got to play with different brands of color, such as Chi, Joico, and Rusk, and we were able to see how they are mixed and how long they take to process. That afternoon I helped one of my learning leaders apply an ink manicure to one of the future professionals. How that works is that we use ink works, which comes in any color you can imagine. We used orange in Sierra's hair. You lighten what every pieces the guest wants to have colored and let it process until blonde (like you would with highlights) and then cover the blonde with the ink works. That will process for about 10 minutes. To make it more vibrant you can tap it with your smoothing iron to help it brighter.
Friday:
In theory we took our assessments, I made an 89, woo!! In specialty class with MaLinda we made color commercials. My group talked about Chi color and I would say that we won the competition. After we had all gone, we did a joke commercial that MaLinda recorded on her iPad and put it on youtube. It was a lot of fun and just a joke! Ha. Here's the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mujq1IeBXCg&feature=youtu.beThat afternoon I was on dispense duty, which means working the color bar. We had about 45 guests on the clinic floor that afternoon we were about as busy as if it were a Saturday!
Saturday:
To start out the day, I worked on my mannequin in theory room. I did a shampoo set with half pin curls. After I finished that, I got a guest: a men's pedicure, ooo that was fun! After that I did a comfort zone perm, which means a perm that I'm comfortable with doing, so I choose to do a helicpoter perm. For a helicopter perm you will section the hair in 4 segments and put the hair in ponytails. You will pick whichever perm rods you wish and roll it like a perm. You would do this technique to achieve beachy waves. After that I did a regular french braid on my mannequin. Soon after, the hot water ran out at the school so the front desk had to call all the guests for the rest of the day and cancel their appointments. We did a major school clean up after that because we had no guests to take care of!
